The eyes, as the old saying goes, are the windows to the soul. They certainly do reveal a lot about a person; however, what they reveal isn’t always accurate. For some people, signs of aging around the eyes can make them look older than they actually are. For others, they may look more tired than they feel, or even perpetually angry. Fortunately, plastic surgery offers a potentially ideal solution in the form of blepharoplasty, or cosmetic eyelid surgery.

At the Orange County plastic surgery practice of Dr. William C. Cohen, cosmetic eyelid surgery of the highest standard is available to those who are dissatisfied with the appearance of the area around their eyes. Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper lids, the lower lids, or both, depending on the unique needs and goals of the individual patient.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Drooping upper eyelids can make a person look less alert than he or she is. On a more practical level, this sagging skin can also impair a person’s vision. Upper eyelid surgery can be performed to address these problems through the removal of excess skin and fat from the lids.

At our plastic surgery practice in Orange County, eyelid rejuvenation is achieved in the upper eyelids through discreet incisions placed in the natural fold of the lid. Through this incision excess tissue can be excised to create a lighter, more proportional eyelid. If necessary, the underlying musculature will also be tightened. The resulting scar will be virtually undetectable because of where it will blend into the natural structures of the eyelid.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

The area directly under the eyes is often affected by lax skin, leading to the appearance of undereye bags. Lower eyelid surgery is performed through a subtle incision made directly below the lower eyelash line, through which excess tissue is removed. The remaining skin is then pulled taut and sutured into place. As with upper eyelid surgery, the scar that results from lower eyelid surgery is virtually impossible to detect due to its location within the natural structures of the eyelids.

Combining Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery

For many patients of our plastic surgery practice in Orange County, eyelid surgery is performed on both the upper and the lower lids to provide more comprehensive rejuvenation. Some of our patients further combine eyelid surgery with other cosmetic treatments, such as face lift, brow lift, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and rhinoplasty. As with all procedures performed at our practice, Dr. Cohen creates exceptionally natural-looking results through upper and lower eyelid surgery.
