Rhinoplasty for a Long Nose

Reducing the length of the nose is a possibility with reduction rhinoplasty. Through reduction rhinoplasty, the nose may be shortened, bumps on the bridge smoothed, and flared nostrils may be minimized. There are two approaches, closed or open, that may be used to perform reduction rhinoplasty.

With closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made inside the nose to eliminate visible scarring. Internal incisions are then used to access structures within the nose; unwanted cartilage is removed to reduce the length of the nose and enhance its overall appearance.

With open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made along the columella, the tissue separating the nostrils. Through this incision, the skin is lifted to provide access to the cartilage of the nose. The cartilage is then shaped and adjusted to the desired appearance. The skin is then replaced and the incision at the columella is closed. Residual scarring is generally hidden beneath the nose.

The Risks of Rhinoplasty

As with any surgery, there are some potential risks to be aware of when considering rhinoplasty. Although most patients experience no complications after surgery, it's important for patients to be aware of the risks associated with rhinoplasty, as well as their personal risks factors.
